Session 46

Cognitive Behavioral Coaching

This week we begin to explore Cognitive Behavioral concepts applied into coaching. I highly recommend coaches to explore Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Coaching (Book, Another Book, Audio Program for some primers). This week we will do an overview and look at one of the most basic (ABC even!) tools from the Cognitive Behavioral world.

The video below provides a great survey of various tools, resources and areas of exploration Cognitive Behavioral Therapists use. As we look at applying CBT to coaching, it can be great to consider how we might apply these same approaches to the developmental approach we are using with our coaching clients. As you review the below video, take note of tools, frameworks or even questions that you would consider applying to a developmental coaching space. CBT is full of great lines of questioning, and within coaching, the coach can support a deeper dive with the client using CBT-inspired observation, challenges, questions and paths of exploration!
