8. Trust and Presence Review

When you ask an MCC coach how to best prepare an MCC level recording for the ICF, they will likely point to coaching around the “Who” (being) of the client as a key component of standing out from PCC level performance. This work requires the coach to ask questions and prompt exploration around the beliefs, hopes, values, self-perceptions, worldview, and identity of the client. As we have discussed before, the questions that best explore the “Who” do not use these somewhat “coachy” words, but rather use the client’s language about themselves to offer natural exploration of the deepest areas about the client in relation to their situation and goals for the coaching.

How does a client allow a coach to explore the heart? How does a coach offer the exploration naturally and masterfully (even though it is done intentionally)? This brings us to the second half of the response and MCC coach should provide to the question above. How to prepare an MCC recording? You must focus on your “who” before you can openly and naturally explore the client’s “who.” It may seem very abstract, but in simpler terms: A coach needs strong self-awareness and self-control in order to support client-awareness and the client’s decision making.

This session and the next are focused on who you are as a coach.
